Find out more about Beòhus
Maximum space for minimum footprint, the modern registered hexagonal design is at once flexible, attractive and pragmatic. Offering a valuable and tangible point of difference with unexpected volume and light, a corridor-less living space with wrap around views and generous living spaces, the design surprises and delights. It fits in nature and its reduced surface area brings material and sustainability benefits.
Beòhus has a dramatic and beautifully detailed exposed frame built with solid Douglas Fir, sourced, milled and crafted in Scotland. It features as standard a stunning solid wood floor, Larch cladding and integrated units to divide the space as needed into bedrooms, kitchen and wet room. Fabrication takes place in our Scottish workshop and is assembled on site rapidly without need for heavy equipment, touching down on groundscrew foundations with minimal disruption to the site.
Beòhus is designed to be used, to connect you to the outside world, so doors and walls can be opened without compromise to comfort. To keep the spaces warm year round when used like this, building alignment to the elements, heating, insulation and thermal mass must be in tune. Surfaces are solid and patina with time, rather than needing replacing, and with a service life measured in generations. Materials tell a carbon positive story, where more carbon is sequestered in the building than has been used in its construction and transport. The addition of living roofs, using local soils that attract native flora and fauna can be added to the story.
Starting with honest, solid materials, all surfaces are tactile and beautiful. The Beòhus promotes superior air quality through breathable, “vapour open” moisture regulating construction and has a deep connection to the environment around with both private and panoramic views from every facet. Storage and appliances are cleverly hidden, removing modern clutter and maintaining the natural charm of the construction. Appointed to suit your taste, the space blends with the environment and groups or families can be accommodated in comfort and privacy, or configured for stunning open entertaining or studio spaces.
Beòhus is born from a commitment to engineering and structural performance that will endure as well on the Western Isles as it will in an Edinburgh garden. Architecturally designed to exceed residential building regulations with type approval, in support of the UK Government Net Zero by 2050, planning for Beòhus is straightforward and a requirement as for any building that might be used as accommodation.
